(Oaxaca, 1899-Mexico, 1991) Mexican Painter. He studied at the Academia de San Carlos in Mexico City. Soon he combined his creative activities with the teachers. Twenty-eight years resided abroad, between New York and Paris. His work as a muralist, cyclopean and made in true “Mexicanism” culminates in the wall to theArchaeological Museum of Mexico, which symbolizes the struggle between day (Feathered Serpent) and night (tiger). Another of his murals, perhaps the largest, is entitled America (1956). Expressionism of his first period, and through Cubism came to abstraction. In the forties and introduced several portraits made in his life the subject of tropical Mexico, with its colors clear and bright. He painted many easel paintings of abstract shapes and rich surfaces with different textures: wound Beast (1953), The man on the phone (1956).
